The leader of the National Coalition, Iyad Allawi, confirmed today, Sunday, that he will not run for the post of prime minister, indicating that it is up to the people.
Allawi said in a tweet on his Twitter account: “I explained my resignation to parliament and announced it to the public opinion frankly.”

He added: “I am not seeking the prime minister, nor will I compete with those who seek to obtain it.”

He continued: “I did not nominate myself previously for the position – I agree with the brothers in the Governing Council on my nomination and I will not nominate myself for him today, it is up to the will of the people and not to the wishes of the greedy or foreign and sectarian interference.”
