The American “CNN” network reported that the Iraqi authorities are investigating an alleged spy network, suspected of having leaked to the United States information that helped it in the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani.
Today, Friday, the network confirmed that the Iraqi authorities launched an investigation earlier this week into the circumstances surrounding the American raid on the Baghdad airport road, which a week ago claimed the lives of Soleimani, the commander of the “Quds Force” in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and the deputy head of the “Popular Mobilization” of Iraq. , Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and a number of other Iranian and Iraqi officials.
The network quoted two sources “directly familiar with the investigation” as saying that the investigators, headed by the National Security Adviser, Faleh al-Fayyad, are following the alleged “espionage network”, and they believe it leaked to Washington details of the movements of the prominent Iranian leader, which served as a basis for his assassination.
And CNN sources said that the investigation focuses on the interrogation of security personnel at Baghdad International Airport, and one of them explained that the investigation committee interviewed many of these security personnel yesterday, most of them who were monitoring security cameras on the day of the assassination of Soleimani.
The network indicated that the authorities have not arrested any suspects yet in the case of the alleged espionage network, but the investigation is continuing.
